Sound
- The trailer begins with non diegetic sound which connotes a calm relaxed setting, it sounds almost like a piano. This is stereotypical at the beginning of most phycological thrillers as usually everything is perfect at the beginning
- As the storyline unfolds in the trailer the non diegetic music becomes deeper and more intense as the suspicion builds up. It also becomes fast pace which connotes the change of mood within the trailer.
- Towards the end of the trailer two diegetic sounds of gun shots are heard, with the gun shot the non diegetic music stops which helps bring more emphasis on the gun shots, which also exaggerates the impact the gun shots would have had. In our trailer we are also using gun shots at the end of our trailer as it is a cliff hanging way to end the trailer.
Camera
- Mid shots are mainly used at the beginning of the trailer to introduce the main characters to the audience.
- Establishing long shot of forest and road, this is giving the audience knowledge of where the film is set and the surrounding areas.
- A mid shot is used of a girl lying flat on the ground in her front garden. She is covered in mud and dirt. This along with the darkness helps to connote evil and danger.
- There is also a long shot of the girl in the lake which leaves the audience questioning whats going to happen next. The low key lighting helps to connote low mood due to the crime that has occurred.
Mise en scene
- The main character in the film is a female and she is shown to be wearing stereotypical clothing for a young lady. Which include denim jeans and a brightly coloured top. This shows the audience she is therefore just an ordinary teenager which connotes her innocence.
- The three antagonists that feature in the film trailer are all seen to be wearing dark clothing for example black which can connote death and evil.
- Throughout the trailer the lighting gets darker which shows the atmosphere is getting more eery. It is also raining at the end of the trailer this helps connote sadness to the audience.
- The mum is featured in the trailer and she is shown to be wearing a white t shirt which can connote innocence and purity. This therefore is letting the audience clearly know who the protagonist is.
- Fast pace cutting is used throughout the trailer to help build tension and cut through lots of scenes quickly to help set the atmosphere of the trailer. This therefore will make the audience intrigued into what is going to happen and they will be drawn in to watch the film.
- Fade to blacks are also used a lot to further build tension. As black connotes evil and death therefore letting the audience know the theme of the trailer.
- Cross cutting is used to show the antagonist when he goes inside the house and when the protagonists gasps which helps to further identify the contrast between the two.
- Shot reverse shot is used between the antagonist and the protagonist. It helps show the protagonists innocence and fright but also shows the antagonists confident personality. This shows the audience who is in charge and that the antagonist has supercity.
